Rice Price Going up in Wuhu, Anhui
Since March 2003, Anhui Wuhu Grain Market has been active. For some varieties of grain, the price increased greatly due to the large marketing demand, especially for crossing rice and Japonic rice.
At present, the retailed price for the grade 1 early indica rice is 1.44RMB/kg, increased 1.4% than that of February; the grade 1 crossing rice is 1.46 RMB/kg, 1.4% increased; the standard 1 Japonic rice is 1.78 RMB/kg, 2.9% higher than of February; The grade 2 vegetable oil is 6.1RMB/kg, same with last month. As estimated, the price will remained stable in a short time in Wuhu Grain Market of Anhui Province.
Price of Rapeseed Oil Going Up in Chongqing
Since March 2003, the price for the rapeseed oil and rapeseed salad oil has been going up in Chongqing market. The retailed price of the high-grade oil has reached 6.8RMB/kg, the oil of grade 1 has reached 6.4RMB/kg and 6.2RMB/kg for the grade 2, respectively increased 0.40RMB, 0.30RMB and 0.20RMB for per kg and 6%, 5% and 3% over that of last month.
For the price of rapeseed salad oil, it is also increased. The grade 1 price has increased to 7.3RMB/kg and 7.00RMB/kg for grade 2 salad oil, increased 0.30RMB and 0.20RMB/kg compared with February 2003.
Sowing Area of Grain Reduced in China
An investigation on China¡¯s 832 counties 70 thousand farm houses in March 2003 showed that in this year, the total sowing area of grain is continuously decreasing. The sowing area of wheat, rice and corn is reducing and for the bean products it will increase.
The sowing area of grain reduced in this year because the price for the major grain products was relatively low in 2002. The area is 1525 million mu, 2.2% lower than that of last year. For the summer grain, the area is 396 million mu, an decrease of 3.8%; the area of early rice is 84 million mu, dropping 4.1% and the area for the autumn grain is 1044 million mu, decreasing 1.4%. In this year, the sowing area of cereals 1181 million mu, decrease 3.3% than that of last year. Of which, the rice is 416 million mu, reduced 1.6%, the area of wheat is 340 million mu, 5.2% lower than that of last year.
For the bean products, the sowing area is 195 million mu, increased 3.6% than that of last year. Of which, the soybean is 138 million mu, increased 5.8% than that of 2002.
Imported Soybean will Exceed 1.4 million tons
The latest statistics from China Grain and Oil Import and Export Company showed that, in April, 2003, China will have 4 shipments of 350 thousand tons soybean imported from South America, plus the soybean imported from America, China¡¯s imported soybean will reach 1.4 million tons. As estimated, the volume will exceed 1.4 million tons in May.
