China¡¯s Sowing Area of Soybean will Increase

Analysis by National Grain and Oil Information Center showed that, the sowing of soybean has started at present in China¡¯s northeast area. As estimated, the sowing area of soybean will increase from 9.47 million hectare in last year to the current 9.9 million hectare and the output will reach 16.9 million tons this year, higher than last year¡¯s 16.5 million tons.

 

Rice Price Unstable in Zhejiang

At present, the demand for rice is greatly increased in Southeast Grain Market of Zhejiang province. The sales volume increased greatly since April 25, 2003 with the daily sales volume exceeded 1600 tons, 3 times increased. The retailed price of rice is correspondingly increased. For the late indica rice produced in Jiangsu, the price is increased from 1.58RMB/kg to 1.74RMB/kg, an increasing of 10.1%; the price for the rice produced in Anhui is increased from 1.52RMB/ton to 1.60RMB/ton, increased 5.2%; the local produced rice is increased from 1.66RMB/ton to 1.76RMB/ton, 6% increased.

 

Soybean Price Gradually Going up in China

In late April 2003, the price of soybean is smoothly going up in Northeast China and it is expected to increase further.

The average price for the middle grade soybean was 2500-2520RMB/ton in Harbin, in Jiamusi, the price was 2400-2420RMB/ton and 2460-2480RMB/ton in Qiqihaer.

In China¡¯s major Customs, the price for the import soybean was also increased. In Qingdao, Zhangjiagang, Tianjin and Shanghai, the average price of imported soybean was 2740-2750RMB/ton, increased 40-50RMB/ton.
