Corn Price Will be Stable in China Market
Since the middle of April, the price of corn is stable in China market. The purchasing price is 0.83RMB/kg and the sales price is 980-990RMB/ton in Jilin. The sales price of under deck cargo is 1060-1070RMB/ton in Dalian Port, the sales price is 1080RMB/ton in Shandong, 1080RMB/ton in Henan, 1130RMB/ton in Hubei and 1170RMB/ton in Guangdong. The price of corn is keep stable in these provinces. In jiangsu, the sales price raised to 1160RMB/ton, 10RMB/ton more than last week. But in Hunan, the sales price dropped to 1170RMB/ton, in Sichuan, the price dropped to 1170RMB/ton, both are dropped 10 RMB/ton than that of last week.
At present, there is no good news to stimulate the price of corn market. It¡¯s estimated that the price of corn will be stable recently. Export is still continued, but no big change. According to the statistics of National Customs Head Office, China export corn of 1.59 million tons in March 2003, estimated export corn 1.2 million tons in April.
The main reasons to restrict the price rising is that firstly, the development of aquaculture is slowing down, only 2% increased than that of last year. Secondly is the influence of SARS. Few people eat restaurant, reducing the meat consumption, effect the demand of corn. With the lapse of time, the effect will be clear. Thirdly, the price of corn is already raised in high level. The average price in corn purchased area is 1153 RMB/ton in March, reaching 1168RMB/ton in April, 15RMB/ton higher than last month, also 22 RMB/ton higher than that of last year.
The factor that prevent the price dropping is including: The project of check the grain depot is in progress. The grain depot will replenish the new corn, made the amount decreased in corn market.
Peoples are worried about the SARS will influence the China corn export. It is believe that the disease will not influence the trade. Because the main import countries is Japan and South Korea. At present, the American corn is 20USD/ton expensive than Chinese corn, China corn have strong appeal to Japan and South Korea market.
