Demand on China¡¯s High Quality Wheat Increased

With the continually increasing of households¡¯ income and the improvement of the flour production technology, the demand on the high quality wheat increased greatly. Meanwhile, the output of high quality wheat increased quickly. The percentage that the high quality wheat accounts for the total consumption is gradually increasing, reaching 95% or above. In 1999, China total consumption of high quality wheat was 10 million tons; in 2002, it increased to 22 million tons. As estimated in 2002, China¡¯s consumption of wheat on the production of bread was 3.6 million tons, on the production of dumplings and noodles was 11.5 million tons, and on the production of cookies was 6 million tons, total of 21.1 million tons.

At present, the consumption of high quality wheat is mainly concentrated in large-scale enterprises. In recent years, the output of high quality wheat is exceeding the demand and the price is relatively lower.

China¡¯s Import of Soybean in June will Reach 852 Thousand Tons

In early June, China¡¯s crushing oil of imported soybean was 607 thousand tons, 137 thousand tons more than that of May. The main reasons include: firstly, the import of soybean and storage increased; second, since June 3, the sales volume and price of soybean meal increased, which stimulated the factories to work harder than ever. By June 15, 2003, China¡¯s total storage of soybean was about 2.25 million tons.

As estimated, by the end of June, the import of soybean will be 40 shipment of 2.3 million tons.
