Summer Grain Expected to Increase in Guangxi
This year Guangxi summer cereal crops expect to win the good harvest, of which the output of rice and corn will increase 2.5% and 5.8% respectively than that of last year. Sample investigation showed that, Guangxi encounters the spring drought in the sowing period of early rice, in some areas the seeding are 15 days later than previous time. Enhance field management, seeding of cereal crops growing situation better than that of last year. In the total of 26 thousand mu early rice in Guangxi Province, 80% are increasing than that of last year. By mid of July, the total output of rice reached 9.6 million tons, 2.5% higher than that of last year. The area of maize of west and middle part keeps an equal pace with last year, the southeast area enlarge the planting of 350 thousand mu. The total harvest area of corn was 6.5 million mu in the province. It is estimate the total output of summer corn will be 1.62 million tons, 5.8% increased than that of last year.
Grain Storage Reduces First Time in Five Years in Baiyin
Since this year, the sales system began to show good status in Beiyin of Gansu Province, which the sales volume is increasing and the storage is coming down. By the end of June, 2003, the total storage of grain is 3.28 million tons in Baiyin City, 52 thousand tons lower than that of the early of 2003, the decrease of 13.6%, for the first time it is declining since 1998.
The main reason for the storage decline are that firstly, the purchasing of grain are decreasing; secondly, the sales are increasing greatly, in the first half of this year, the sales volume was 70 thousand tons, 27.4 thousand tons more than that of last year.
