Good Future for Chinese Peanut Export

The industry specialist stated that the door of peanut international trade already opens to China completely. The opportunity for this market is growing, the quantity of Chinese peanut export will extend, and the price will increase.

The peanut is one of the five largest oil-bearing crops in the world. The main production countries include China, India and USA. China has the largest production, India has the largest sow area and USA has the highest yield per unit area. The China¡¯s annual sow area of peanuts is about 5.3 million mu (15 mu = 1 ha.), accounts about 15.5% of the total sow area world. The total production of peanuts in China is 83 million ton, accounts about 31% of the world¡¯s production. The yield is about 163kg per mu.

The peanuts are also the biggest nut trade in the international market and total trading volume is about 1 million ton each year. Until 1980¡¯s, USA¡¯s peanuts took the dominate position in the international. In recent years, China, USA and Argentina become the top three export countries on peanut international trade..

On the other hand, Chinese peanuts have an advantage of lower price. In 2002, the export price of Chinese peanuts was around 5100 RMB yuan per ton, which was about 20% lower than the prices of USA¡¯s peanut in the international market.
