Beijing Starts the Market Access System on Livestock Products

Started on January 1st of 2003, the Beijing Municipality has implemented the ¡°Market Access System¡± for the following products: beef, mutton and goat meat, poultry meat, aquatic products, processed meat, dairy product, soybean product, potable water, rice, wheat flour and edible oil.

The traders and suppliers for those products will be registered and products will be regularly inspected. If the product does not meet the determined quality standards the products will be removed from the market and the market access permission to the Beijing market will be cancelled.

Chongqing Could be the Export Production Base for Livestock Products

Recently, a group of industry specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture visited Chongqing and conducted a systematically inspections and tests on swine meat. The testing results shown that the swine meat from Chongqing has much less residuals as compared with the pork produced in other regions. Chongqing could be designated as the national export production base of livestock products in the near future.

In order to meet the challenge of raising technical barriers (green barriers) by other countries on importing livestock products, China has been implementing the ¡°Special Disease Free Zone Program¡± in 117 counties in six provinces. And 27 counties and districts in Chongqing are designated as the demonstration areas for the ¡°Special Disease Free Zone Program¡±.

Shanghai Closes off more Livestock Farms

The Shanghai Dalong Livestock Enterprise just finished the construction of a large swine farm with the total investment of 4.5 million RMB in Anhui, another livestock enterprise moves out of Shanghai.

According to the information from the Shanghai Municipal Agricultural Committee, Shanghai has set up 128 livestock production bases/companies in other provinces. Shanghai will close off another 203 livestock farms in next three years, and the total livestock production will be reduced more than 40%. This is the result of continually urbanization and more emphasis on environment concern by the publics.
