Gansu Gains Continuous Harvest in Livestock Industry

In the year of 2002, Gansu government put the stress on the adjustment of structure in the livestock industry and enhanced the development in the science and technology and management. It has gained another harvest for the continuous 21st year. In 2002, the inventory number for the cattle, sheep, pig and chicken were 3.6 million, 12.38 million, 6.16 million and 36.55 million, respectively; increased 3.12%, 5.57%, 3.4% and 3% than that of 2001. For the number of slaughtering, it was respectively 920 thousand, 5.6 million, 6.35 million and 27.7 million, an increasing of 5.06%, 5.73%, 3.43% and 5.42%. The output for the meat, eggs and dairy products was 677.3 thousand, 123.3 thousand and 160.9 thousand tons, respectively; increased 3.8%, 3.99% and 6.15% than that of 2001.

 

Corn Price Dropped in Jiangsu

Before the Chinese Spring Festival, the slaughtering of animal increased in Jiangsu Province, and the animal inventory is not supplement on time due to the cold weather, the corn price is accordingly dropping because the demand on the feed is decreasing.

In February 2003, the average wholesale price of corn in Jiangsu Province was 1.14 RMB/kg, 0.02 RMB/kg lower than that of January. The average purchasing price in the grain enterprise was 1.00-1.04 RMB/kg, dropped 0.01-0.02 RMB/kg, while the wholesale price was 1030-1070 RMB/ton, 10-30 RMB/ton decreased. As estimated that with the temperature going up and the breeding industry becoming active in Jiangsu Province, the storage of corn will be reduced and the price will be going up.

 

China Becomes the Largest Beer Producer in the World


March 10. According to the information from the China National Statistic Bureau, after being the second largest beer producer in the world for 9 years, China is now the largest beer producer in the world. In 2002, China produced 23.87 million metric ton (MMT) of beer, which was more than the beer production of USA that was 22 MMT. It is expected that the total beer production in China in 2003 will be about 24 MMT.

Based on the industry specialists, the beer consumption in rural China still has some great potential. Most multinational beer companies have been in China. It is expected that competition in the beer industry will significantly increase.

 

Inner Mongolia will Plant Grass 70 Million mu

According to the information from the Inner Mongolia 2003 Planning Meeting, the Inner Mongolia Autonomy Region will plant grass of 70 million mu (15 = 1 ha.). Some of the land will be retired from grazing and other will be desert land. It is planned more grazing land will be retired used for planting grass and more desert land will be covered with grass. In five year the sustainable grassland ecosystem will be established in the project implemented areas.
Changsha will Set up the Largest Feed Trade Center in South China
The largest feed trade center will be established in Xianinggang, Kaifu District, Changsha, Hunan province. This feed trade market was set up in 1992, mainly to trade corn, wheat bran and soybean meal. The supply is mainly from Hebei, Henan and other provinces in north China and the products sold to Hunan, Guangdong and Guangxi. The total trade volume was about 0.65 million tons with the value of 800 million RMB. The Changsha Municipal Grain Bureau has planned to restructure and expand the market and to make it the largest feed trade center in south China.
