Liuzhou Introduced Milk Goat from Shanxi
In November 2002, Guangxi Liuzhou City Hedong Milk Farm introduced pure bred milk goat of 48 head from Shanxi Province, of which there is one head of ram and 47 head of ewe. The weight for the adult ram is 90-100kg and 70kg for adult ewe. Under the directions of the specialists from the livestock department, the milk goat is growing very well in this half year. Now there have 20 ewes birth lambs, of which 5 birthed twin. By now it has the inventory of 68 head, 41.67% over that of before the introduction.
Corn Export Subsidy will be Cut Down
Overseas information showed that an official from one of China¡¯s major grain export Group, Jilin Grain Group indicated that, due to the corn price is so high in the international market, China government will cut down the corn export subsity this year.
For the corn price which has been sold by Jilin Grain Group in April, May and June, It is higher than that of 2002, when the price is FOB US$105/ton.
The new export policy will be definite after the National People¡¯s Congress in March 2003 and will be implement after April.
Shuanghui Group Plans to Open 500 Fresh Meat Shops in Beijing
Shanghui Group, headquarter in the Luhe of Henan province, is planning to open 500 fresh meat shops in Beijing be the end 2003.
Shanghui is the largest meat processing company in China and it has been successfully sell ¡°Shanghui¡± brand processed meat products in China. Few years ago it started the fresh meat shops in Henan and Sichuan to promote the food safety meat products. Most of those fresh meat shops have been successful; therefore, it is plan to duplicate the success in Beijing. At present, Shuanghui has 130 fresh meat chain shops in Henan and 50 shops in Sichuan. It is planning to set up 2000 shops in total, in China in five years.
China¡¯s Corn Sown Areas Decreases
Based on the survey on the corn planting by the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) the total sown area for corn will be reduced.
On March 11, MOA released the survey information from 668 counties indicated that the total sown area for corn would be reduced by 2.3% from 2002. The survey conducted by the National Statistic Bureau in March covered 832 counties with more than 70000 farming households, which shown that the sown area of corn in 2033 would be 356 million mu (15 mu = 1 ha.), or 3.6% less than 2002. The information from the China National Grain and Oil Information Centre indicates that the total sown area of corn in 2003 would be 360 million mu, 7.5 million mu less than 2003
On other hand, the sown are for special corn such as high oil content corn has increased which the sown area for the ordinary corn has declined more.
China¡¯s Production of Poultry Eggs has been the Largest for 18 Years
Since 1985, China has been the world¡¯s largest egg producer. In 2002, the total production of poultry eggs in China was 24 million metric ton (MMT), accounted about 46% of the total world production. The total meat production in China in 2002 was 65 MMT, accounted about 28% of the total meat production in the world. The average egg production per capita in China was 17.9 kg in 2002, which is close to the average numbers in the developed countries.
Consumption of Fresh Milk Annually Increasing in Shijiazhuang
The latest statistics from Shijiazhuang City Survey Team showed that the consumption of fresh milk is increasing annually in recent years.
From 1994 to 2002, the per capita annul consumption of fresh milk has increased from 7.6kg to 29.3kg, 2.9 times increased, an average increasing of 18.4%. At present, the per capita consumption of milk in Shijiazhuang city is still lower than that of the world¡¯s average of 102 kg, even lower than that of the advanced countries of 312 kg.
