China¡¯s Meat Production in 2002

1£® Stable Development in 2002

China¡¯s meat output has been increasing smoothly in 2002. As statistical on China¡¯s 30 provinces showed that, from January to September 2002, China¡¯s total meat output was 50.89 million tons, 4.86% over that of 2001. Of which the output of pork was 33.13 million tons, an increase of 3.33%; the output of beef was 4.3 million tons, increased 6.09%, the mutton output was 2.27 million tons, an increase of 7.78% and the output of poultry meat was 10.56 million tons, increased 6.78% than that of 2001.

2. Live Hogs Inventory and Slaughtering

In September 2002, China¡¯s inventory of live hogs was 469.52 million head, 1.07% over that of 2001. Of which, the fertile sow was 40.94 million head, an increase of 3.57%, accounting for 8.72% of total of live hogs, a little increase..

For the slaughtering number of live hogs, it was 440.7 million head in September of 2002, increased 3.82% than that of 2001 and the slaughtering rate was 93.86%, higher than that of 2001 which the slaughtering rate was 91.38%. At present more than 10 provinces has the slaughtering of live hogs exceeded 19 million head, including Hunan, Sichuan, Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Huangxi, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Anhui and Hubei, accounting for 66.73% of China¡¯s total slaughtering.

By September 2002, China¡¯s pork output reached 33.13 million tons, increasing 3.33% than that of 2001. In this quarter more than 15 provinces with the pork output exceeded 1 million tons.

3. Beef Inventory, Slaughtering and Output

By September 2002, China¡¯s beef inventory was 132.4 million head, increased 2.14% than that of 2001 and 1.47% higher than that of 2001. For the slaughtering of beef, it was 32.35 million by September 2002, 4.47% higher than that of 2001 and 11.49% than that of 2000. In the first 3 quarters of 2002, the slaughtering with more than 1 million head is 10 provinces, accounting for 74.05% of China¡¯s total slaughtering.

In the first 3 quarter of 2002, China¡¯s beef output was 4.3 million tons, increased 6.09% than that of 2001 and 10.83% higher than that of 2000. The output for more than 100 thousand tons was 10 provinces with the output is accounting for 65.39% of China¡¯s total output.

4. Mutton Inventory, Slaughtering and Output

The inventory of mutton was 336.36 million head, increased 4.71 than that of 2001. The slaughtering was 170 million head, 12.5% higher than that of 2001 and the output was 2.27 million tons, an increase of 7.78%. The mutton output with more than 100 thousand tons was 7 provinces, accounting for 70.09% of China¡¯s total mutton output.

5. Poultry Output Increased

In the first 3 quarters of 2002, China¡¯s total poultry output was 10.56 million tons, increased 6.78% than that of 2001 and 30.86% higher than that of 30.86%. The poultry meat output exceeded 100 thousand tons was 21 provinces, accounting for 47.64% of China¡¯s total poultry meat output.
