China¨s Meat Import and Export in March 2003

Pork: In March 2003, China exported 24900 tons of fresh and frozen pork, increased 112% than that of February and 119 over that of 2002. From January to March 2003, the export of pork was 50700 ton, 61% more than the same period of last year. The export to Russia was 16.700 ton in March, 212% and 215% more than February and March 2002 respectively.

In march 2003, China has imported 99.85 million tons of pork, 180% over that of February and 44% decreased than that of March 2002. From January to March 2003, China has imported 19,800 ton of pork, down 55% from the same period of last year. The pork imported from USA was 5451 tons in March, 282% more than February and 43% less than March 2002.

Beef: In March 2003, China Exported 816 tons of fresh and frozen beef, 54% more than February and 45% over that of last year. From January to March 2003, China has Exported 2281 tons of beef, 12% decreased than that of last year. Of which 632 tons were Exported to Hong Kong in March, up 23% over February and 75% over March 2002.

For the import of pork, China has imported 704 tons in March 2003, 68% over February and down 26% over March 2002. From January to March 2003, China has imported 3132 tons pork, 43% more than that oflast year. Of which 497 tons were imported from America, up 24% over February and down 25% from the same period of last year.

Mutton: China exported 631 tons of fresh and frozen mutton in March 2003, an increase of 63% than February. From January to March 2003, it exported 1862 tons of mutton, increasing 171% than that of last year. Mutton was mainly exported to Hong Kong and Jordan. The import of mutton was 3212 tons in March, up 90% over February. 7229 tons of mutton was imported from January to March 2003, down 14% over the same period of last year. Of which, 2904 tons were imported from New Zealand, up 110% over February.

Poultry meat: China exported 27600 tons of fresh and frozen poutry meat in March 2003, 20% more than February and 68% more than that of last year. From January to March 2003, China imported 76600 tons of putry meat, 30% higher than that of last year. The export to Japan was 11700 tons in March, an increase of 56% over February and 60% more than that of last year, of which 11600 tons was chicken.

China imported 52800 tons of poultry meat in March, up 54% over February and equaling that of March 2002. During January to March, China has imported 139800 tons of poultry meat, decreased 4% than that of 2002. Of which, 52400 tons were imported from USA in March, an increase of 53% over last month and 16% more than March 2002.
