Supply Shortage of Animal Products in Inner Mongolia

The grassland in Inner Mongolia suffered continues storm and drought in 2001 and resulted in the feedstuff is shortage and the amount of cow and sheep in stock dropped. The supply of beef and mutton and wool will be shortage in the coming two or three years.

According to the statistics of animal office in Inner Mongolia, the continues disaster resulted the damage of grassland reaching 580 million mu, account for 56.8% to the whole area grassland. The amount of animal in stock dropped heavily lasting for two years in this area.

Since last spring, because of the heavy sandstorm, there is more sand in the wool and effect the quality of the wool. At present, because of the drop of output and quality, etc factors, the cost of wool processing enterprise increased about 1/3 and the profit dropped clearly, so the earning of herdsman dropped about 1/2.
