China Becomes the Largest Beer Producer in the World

According to the information from the China National Statistic Bureau, after being the second largest beer producer in the world for 9 years, China is now the largest beer producer in the world. In 2002, China produced 23.87 million metric ton (MMT) of beer, which was more than the beer production of USA that was 22 MMT. It is expected that the total beer production in China in 2003 will be about 24 MMT.

Based on the industry specialists, the beer consumption in rural China still has some great potential. Most multinational beer companies have been in China. It is expected that competition in the beer industry will significantly increase.
